Yarmolek, Aleck Age 86, of Oswego died Friday June 3, 2011 at his home. Aleck was born March 24, 1925 in Joliet to Gregory & Eufemia (Dulevich) Yarmolek. He married Judith Mindar November 9, 1979 in Springfield, IL. Judith passed April 9, 2002. He was a retired supervisor at the Olin Chemical Corp. in Joliet. He had served in the US Air force and was an avid woodworker, who was known for his beautiful furniture he made. His great enjoyment was to spend time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his step-daughter Amy (Terry) VanCura of Yorkville; two step-sons- Edward (Connie) Hess 0f Brentwood, CA, Mike (Christina) Hess of Mt. Pleasant, IA; six grandchildren, Edward & Raymond Hess, Benjamin & Bradley VanCura, Joseph & Hannah Hess; a sister, Vera (Al) Voight of Santee, CA and a brother, Max (Phyllis) Yarmolek of Joliet. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith; two sisters, Olga Yarmolek-Hochevar and Mary Yarmolek-Demick. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 with his son, Pastor Mike Hess officiating at the Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory, 1801 S. Douglas Rd, Oswego, IL., 60543-0665. She was born Oct. 18, 1926 in Jacksonville, a daughter of Earl and Anna V. (Jefferson) Rickard. She married Loren B. "Buck" Brown on April 28, 1956 in Quincy. He died Feb. 13, 2000., Mrs. Brown was a licensed beautician for more than 50 years in the Quincy area, working for the Key Beauty Salon and for Mr. Roberts. Anna May received her GED when she was 62 years old. She was also a graduate of the Quincy Beauty Academy. She was of the Christian Faith. Anna May loved to crochet., She is survived by two daughters, Krista Sullivan and her husband, James, of Manchester, N.H. and Gloria Jean Kinkade and her husband, David, of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeff Sullivan, Jimmy Sullivan, Kimberly Schafer and her husband Paul, Lee Ann Kinkade and her husband Vernon and John Gareth Kinkade and his wife Jean; and seven great-grandchildren, Logan Schafer, Loren Kinkade, David V. Born Nov. 6, 1956, in Rockford, the son of Harry J. and Yvette C. (Brien) Malvesti Sr. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Army. ANTOINETTA ADELINE 'ANN' ANCONA ROCKFORD - Antoinetta Adeline "Ann" Ancona, born March 26, 1920, in Rockford, went home to her Lord on Friday, June 3, 2011. She was the daughter of Tony and Margaret (Sodini) Grotto. Married Nicholas A. Ancona on July 23, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa; he died in 1976. They raised three sons, John (Patty) Ancona of Barrington, Nick (Floyette) Ancona and David (Teresa) Ancona, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Tim (Karen) Ancona, Paul (Jenelle) Ancona, Jason Ancona, Mary Owen, Sara (Greg) Brown, Joe Ancona and Jena Ancona; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Linda Gunderson, Mario (Josephine) Agostini, Tony (Rowena) and Peter (Norma) Agostini, Joe Grotto, Dora (Joe) Calgaro, Rose (Carl) Segalla, Loretta (Don) Cruden and Norma DeSanti; sister-in-law, Ann Nyren; brother-in-law, Leonard Ancona; and many nieces and nephews. She was a happy person, always had a smile for you. She worked numerous jobs; one of her favorite was working at Ancona Shoe Store in Loves Park, in the early 1950s; and later in life retiring from Woodward Governor. Ann's grandchildren loved Sunday dinners with her wonderful spaghetti sauce that is still being made by her daughters-in-law. She loved ceramics, bowling, swimming, Florida and Barbara Mandrell. She will be missed by all. Predeceased also by sister, Annie Bondio; brother, Virgil Grotto; and a special friend that she shared many good times with, Kenneth Bratton. She was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the St. Louis Cardinals., Barb was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Adams County Home Extension. As a child she was involved in 4-H, Rural Youth and enjoyed participating at the Adams County Fair., She enjoyed playing Pinochle with a close group of friends in Camp Point for over 50 years. Clara Ruth Briles, 91, of DeKalb, passed away Saturday, May 7, under the tender care of the DeKalb County Hospice at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, DeKalb., Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Riverside, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, Ruth was the daughter of Robert Pierce and Ida (Hightower) Wilson. She married Worthie Elwood Briles on June 6, 1941, in Austin, Texas, while the two of them were attending the, . Later that summer, Ruth and Elwood received their Bachelors of Arts degrees in zoology from UT. They then went to the, at Madison to begin work on their advanced degrees. However, those efforts were set aside so that Elwood could serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II., Following World War II and the births of their first two children (Susan and David), Ruth and Elwood returned to Madison where they received their advanced degrees in immunogenetics in 1948 (Ruth: M.S., Elwood: Ph.D.). The family then moved to College Station, Texas, where Elwood was a faculty member in the Poultry Science Department at Texas A&M and where their younger daughter Sara was born. After the family moved to DeKalb in 1957, Ruth worked with Elwood at the DeKalb Agricultural Association as a research associate in immunogenetics research from 1958-1968. From 1968-1970, Ruth was an Instructor in biological sciences at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb., From 1970-2000, Ruth again worked with Elwood, this time as a research associate for immunogenetics research in the Biology Department at NIU. On October 9, 2004, Elwood and Ruth were recognized for their contributions to avian genetics by the U.S. Department of Agriculture., Ruth was active in the American Association of University Women, volunteered at the Ellwood House and served for several years as the superintendent of the Sunday school at First Congregational Church in DeKalb., She is survived by her husband, Elwood; children, Susan Marie (Duane) Kniebes of Boulder, Colo., David Elwood (Marilyn Crain) Briles of Birmingham, Ala. and Sara (Richard Briles Moriarty) Briles of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Dustin Lincoln (Dana Churness) Briles Moriarty of Herbster, Wis., Rachel Florence (fiancé Duy Hoang) Briles of Austin, Texas and Travis Crain Briles of Boulder, Colo.; step-grandchildren, Linda (Kniebes) Kozak and Carrie (Steve) Swift (Kniebes) of Lisle, Ill. and Van Kniebes of Boulder; great-grandchildren, Wylder Lee and Olin Elwood Moriarty of Herbster; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, including especially nephews, Jesse Rodman Wilson Jr. (Cathy) of Cold Springs, Nev., Hal (Claudia) Cochran of West Covina, Calif., Dale (Jacqueline) Cochran of San Clemente, Calif. and Roy (Thérèse) Krebs of Alexandria, Va., She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Pierce Wilson II, Travis Hudson Wilson I, Ida Gertrude Krebs, Charlotte Josephine Cochran, Sarah Elizabeth Quinlan and Jesse Rodman Wilson Sr.; and her brothers-in-law, Connally Oran Briles, Van Gordon Briles and Jack David Briles., A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, in the Hearthside Room in the Visitors' Center of the Ellwood House, 509 W. Huffman, Charles James, Age 51, of Romeoville, IL, born January 21st, 1960, in Chicago, passed suddenly on May 31, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles David and Loretta Huffman, and a grandson, Steven Boyt. He is survived by his wife Joanne Huffman (nee Covelli), daughters Laura Huffman and Charlene Boyt, sons Charles Huffman Jr., Tony Covelli, Mario Mora, and Joey Covelli, a sister, Debbie Tummins (Gary), a brother, Mark Huffman, and grandchildren, Aaliyah Williams, Savanna Huffman, Serenity Williams, Mariah Mora, Salena Huffman, Darin Moore, Anna Huffman, Mario Mora Jr., and Tessa foster. Chuck loved working on cars, fishing, camping and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Claire LeClaire Gates

CHARLESTON - Claire LeClaire Gates, 95 of Charleston, IL died at 9:20 P.M. on Thursday, June 2 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL. She was born in Lake Linden, Michigan on May 17, 1916 to Marie Jacques and James LeClaire. After graduating from Lake Linden High School, she attended the Cook County School of Nursing and graduated as an RN in 1939. She worked at Montgomery Sanitarium, Cook County Hospital, and in private service until enlisting in the Army in February of 1942 and achieved the rank of second lieutenant. On May 15, 1942 Claire married Edward C. Gates while living in Chicago, Illinois. In 1950, they moved to Charleston where she worked at the Charleston Hospital and assisted in Edward's dental practice for 25 years. When Edward retired, Claire went to work at the Hilltop Nursing Home as an RN at the age of 65 and continued working there until she was 75 years old. She was a long time member of the Charleston Country Club, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, St. Cecelia's Circle, and countless bridge clubs. She loved to play golf and her passions were knitting and bridge. Through the years her family enjoyed the fruits of her knitting, and she donated hundreds of knitted hats to St. Charles for their annual Christmas drive. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday. Her life was full of love given and reciprocated by her 4 children: Judy Merrow of Atlanta, GA; Jim Gates (Connie) of Isle of Palms, SC; John Gates (Sue) of Kell, Ill; and Jacquie Linney of Evanston, Ill. Grandchildren Wendy (Keith) Parry; Brett (Dee) Ritter; Kevin Gates; Kimberly (Chaz) West; Nathan (Emily) Gates; Aaron Gates; Whitney (Jim) Davidson; Kelsea, Kris, and Karra Linney; and 8 great grandchildren. She has two sisters Kay D'Agostino of Hancock, MI, Shirley Sauber of Golf Shores, LA. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her grandson Terry Ritter, and brother Frank LeClaire. Douglas R. Burson, 66, of Hinckley, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his home. Born March 16, 1945, in Aurora, the son of Douglas L. and Wilma (Ramer) Burson, Douglas was united in marriage to the former Mrs. Linda Quantz Wick on Oct. 20, 1987, and they spent the next 23 happy years of their lives together., For 34 years, Mr. Burson was employed by the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of both the National Association of Letter Carriers and the American Motorcyclist Association. David Vernon "Swede" Karlson

David was born Nov. 12, 1947, in Quincy, a son of Vernon Lester and Juanita Marie Conner Karlson. On Oct. 29, 1970, he married Ruth Melanephy in San Diego, Calif., and she died July 21, 1990. On April 22, 2006, he married Sandra Mae Higgins in Litchfield. She survives., David was a 1967 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He enlisted in the Marines, serving from 1968 to 1974 . David was very proud to serve in the Marines and for his country in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Ranger. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, retiring in 2003., David spent as much time as possible on the golf course. Golfing was one of his true loves. Griffin, Dennis Joseph DDS Of Arlington Heights, , who treated hundreds of patients over the past 35 years across the Northwest Suburbs, passed away on June 2 at his home. He was 72. Over the years, Dr. Griffin had played bass guitar for liturgies at St. James Church, was president of the Schaumburg Dental Study Club and fulfilled a life-long dream of taking part in amateur racing through the Skip Barber Racing School in Wisconsin. In May, he played bass guitar at a Beatles Tribute Night in Chicago with his son Joseph, who lives in Chicago. Born in Chicago and raised in New Lenox, Dr. Griffin received his doctor of dentistry from the, at Chicago and bachelor degrees from Quincy College and Lewis University. He and his wife, Jean Latz Griffin, and their family have lived in Arlington Heights since 1975. Clemens, M.D., passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in St. Louis., He is survived by wife of 40 years, Marsha Kay Clemens and daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Clemens., He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Clemens (Wolfram), and father, Charles William Clemens Jr., Born in Denver, Charles served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps from 1971 through 1973 and had service in the Republic of Vietnam from 1971 through 1972., Charles received his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Bloomington in 1966 and his Master of Arts from IU Medical School in 1970. He did his internship at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., from 1970 through 1971 and his residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis from 1973 through 1975., In 1975, Charles joined the practice at Carle Clinic in Urbana, until 1991 when he moved to the Southern Illinois University Student Health Service where he retired as Chief of Staff., His hobbies included long-distance bicycling, camping, photography and backpacking. As of 2004, he had completed six backpacking trips into the Grand Canyon., "A Celebration of Life: Remembering Chuck Clemens" event honoring Dr. Clemens will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Green Retreat in Victorian House,, . Born Oct. 3, 1915, in Rockford, the daughter of William and Hazel (Lawson) Kinney. She lived her whole life in Rockford, graduating from Rockford High School in 1933. She married Harland D. Mabie on Jan. 1, 1937; he died Oct. 17, 1962. Betty worked for the Board of Education for many years. She was a charter member of the Calvary Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Calvary Mission Guide. Elizabeth was devoted to her family and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Merrill) Davis of Truman, Minn., James (Juanita) Mabie of Joplin, Mo., Mark A. Monferdini, Eudora M. "Lived a Wonderful Long Life" Mrs. Eudora M. Monferdini (nee Eichelberger) 92 passed peacefully with her children by her side on May 14, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She was born in Plainfield, Illinois, and was a member of the Plainfield High School "Class of 1936". "Dora" married the "Love of her life" George J. Monferdini in 1939, and was a long time Joliet resident. She moved to Desert Hot Springs, California in 2001 after her retirement. Dora worked with her husband George at Commercial Electric Company for 30 years until his death in 1969. She then took over the management of the business for the next seven years. She was a member of the staff at the Holy Family Society-USA until her retirement in 2000. Dora was two term President of the Joliet Catholic Women's League, a member of the St. Raymond Altar and Rosary Society, the St. Raymond Mother's Club, the Guardian Angel Home Auxiliary, the SeaBee Veteran's of America Auxiliary, the Joliet Artist Guild, the Joliet West High School Booster Club, and was Secretary of the Desert View Home Owners Association in Desert Hot Springs, California until her death. Her husband George, her brother Ed Eichelberger, and her parents Lorin and Bernice Eichelberger (nee Klett) preceded her in death. Surviving are her son George Monferdini of Bernalillo, New Mexico; daughter Mary Lou Li Puma of Breckenridge, Colorado; grandson's Ryan Eickelman; and Lance Li Puma; great grandson Ethan Eickelman; brother, "Ike" Eichelberger of Plainfield, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is survived by Arlene, his wife of 61 years; son David (Sharon Tremble) Anderson of Occidental, Calif.; daughter Diane (Ed) Dewell of Batavia; sister-in-law Norma Roman of Addison; and two kitties., He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Daniel., Enlisting in the, Corps of Engineers, he served in the Pacific in, . On Guam, he worked in the supply depot and was a trained demolition expert., After the war, he studied at the University of Illinois prior to joining his father's business, Anderson Manufacturing & Engineering, where he designed and manufactured special machinery for paper handling. They were a successful team and held several patents relating to their products., In 1956, Gene and his young family moved to Lombard where he sang bass in the West Towns Barbershop Chorus and coached Babe Ruth baseball., In 1981, Gene and Arlene moved to St. Charles. He volunteered at Delnor, serving over 6,500 hours, in the library, driving the mobile mammography van and doing patient transportation., He was a very active member of Mended Hearts for over 25 years, visiting cardiac patients and serving as editor of the newsletter., A long-suffering Cubs fan, he enjoyed music, antique cars, politics, computer solitaire, nature and feeding and watching the birds. He then married Betty Corman Otto on May 18, 1996, in Gerlaw, Ill. She survives., Also surviving are four daughters, Susan (and Patrick) Kennedy of Magalia, Calif., Teresa (and Brian) Lindstrom of Freeport, Ill., Georgia (and Charlie) Smith of Lynn Center, Ill., Kristen (and Robert) Roman-Nowak of Paradise, Calif.; three step-daughters, Luann Smith, Chris Lutz and Lisa Richardson; a step-son, Steven Lutz; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren., Along with his parents and first wife, George was preceded in death by his twin brother, James Gilbert Roman and a sister, Jean Krantz., He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator with the "Dynamite Gang" of the 367th Fighter Group., George was an electrician, farmer and gardener. He enjoyed cards, gardening and dancing., Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. She played with the ladies golf league at Sandy Hollow and Macktown golf courses, was a member of Ostende Dance Club with her husband, was an avid bridge player, attended Second Congregational Church and was a member of Leona B. Gordon Circle at Second Congregational Church. Our Mom was devoted to Dad, John J. "Jack" Wright who preceded her in death after 57 years of marriage. She will also be greeted in heaven by her father, Adrian Edward Renois and her mother, Theresa Frances Renois, nee Vollmer and a younger brother Billy along with her many previous family pets. Prior to her enjoying retirement and friends at the Grand Manor, mom was an active gardener, painter, fisher-woman and an active bingo player. She married Rex Towne on July 14, 1957, and operated a salon in their Rockford home until moving in 1976 to Oregon, where she worked in several salons. After Rex's death in 1985, Joanne obtained her CNA license and worked at nursing homes in Oregon and Mount Morris before retiring in 1999. She moved to Byron, where she lived with her daughter Lisa, then with her daughter Robin. Joanne loved traveling to Texas to visit her son, Greg, and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. Survivors include children, Lisa (Larry) Leach of Davis Junction, Robin (John) Sisouk of Byron and Greg (Jodi) Towne of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Janel (Josh) Voyles, Ashley (Kevin) Vuong, Kelsey, Lauren and Mallory Lameyer, Jacob, Joanna and Tyler Sisouk, and Reed Towne; great-grandchild, Evan Vuong; and dear friends, Vivian and Norma. He had a wonderful support group in Phoenix were he made many friends over the years. He loved to pan for gold out west and travel to Laughlin to gamble a little bit. He also loved his "roundup" trips. He will be greatly missed by the Phoenix group of friends, as well as family here back home in the Chicago area. He was nicknamed "Chicago John". Gariepy, 94, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Woodstock., He was born July 3, 1916, in Chicago., He attended, before enlisting in the Navy during, He earned his law degree from DePaul University, where he was a member of Delta Theta Pi, Warvelle Senate., He was a lifelong member of the American Bar Association., He worked for Continental Insurance in Illinois, Ohio, California and Montreal PQ, Canada, retiring as western regional vice president in San Francisco., He served his community wherever he resided. As a tribute to his community activism, he had a park and street named after him in Dollard de Ormeaux, Quebec. Joseph A. "A.J." Humes

A.J. was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Montrose, Iowa, one of eight children born to Ernest and Rhea Stevenson Humes., He attended Keystone grade school and Kahoka High School., On June 30, 1951, he and Lois R. Calvert were married at Kahoka. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary later this month., A.J. farmed all of his life. He loved the outdoors and was an avid quail and mushroom hunter and also fisherman. He truly loved picking blackberries and putting in a big garden. In later years, he enjoyed playing golf., He was a member of the Wyaconda Christian Church and was elder emeritus. He had received his 50-year Masonic pin and was a member of St. Francisville Lodge No. 588 AF&AM in Wayland. He had been active in the former Wyaconda Lions Club and always enjoyed time they spent together barbecuing at the Clark County Fair. Together, he and Lois enjoyed the eight years they spent as "snowbirds" wintering in Yuma, Ariz. Most of all, he enjoyed his time spent with his family and friends., Survivors include his wife, Lois, of Wyaconda; a daughter, Kathy (Stanley) Blythe of Wyaconda; two sons, Richard A. (Bonnie) Humes of Clayton, Ill., and Joseph B. (Lisa) Humes of Wyaconda; six grandchildren, Chad (Natalie) Humphrey of Kahoka, Meagan Humes of Quincy, Ill., Miranda (Seth) Vermillion of Clayton, Ill., Matthew Humes of Golden, Ill., and Christopher J. Humes and Andrew A. KENNETH EUGENE REINTS

Kenneth Eugene Reints, 67, died May 30, 2011, at Sharon Health Care, Peoria, his home for the past several years. Ken was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Rochelle, youngest in a family of four children and first baby of the year at Rochelle Hospital., He grew up on the family farm in the Creston/Esmond area, attending Creston Grade School. After the family moved to Sycamore, he graduated from Sycamore High School in 1962 and then attended the, Ken was a handsome high achiever as a young man, a top student in school and received many recognition honors for his work in 4-H and FFA, with projects including crop and livestock production, showmanship, marketing, truck gardening and leadership skills. He received the 1962 DeKalb County Outstanding Agriculture 4-H Member award, State Farmer Degree at the Illinois FFA convention in Chicago and was a delegate for Illinois to the National 4-H Club Congress in 1962. Ken also ran for the track team at Sycamore High School., After high school, he began studies at the University of Illinois with interest in veterinary medicine. While at the U of I, he was struck down in the prime of his youth by a debilitating disease. With help of family and medical experts, he struggled to defeat the disease, but eventually it took him out of the game for the remainder of his life and left him disabled and unable to pursue his goals., He is survived by two brothers, Philip Leo (Darlene) of Pinedale, Wyo., and Robert Earl Jr. (Delores) of Dysart, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Helen (Larry) Mayo of Bellevue, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews., He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ethel (Finley) Reints; and a niece, Connie (Reints) Kahler., Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, with the funeral service immediately after at 11 a.m. at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle. Fred K. and Katie (Collins) Rich, she graduated from Jennings Seminary, Aurora; Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts; and Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury (Vt.) College, with a Master of Arts., Louise taught English and Latin courses for 44 years in grades 8-13 in Iowa and Illinois; she was employed by Hinsdale Township High School District 86 for 37 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, DeKalb; AAUW, AARP and IEA-NRTA; a volunteer crafter at Graue Mill and Museum, Oak Brook; and a volunteer at Oak Crest, where she lived since 1999., Louise enjoyed family, children, people, books, plays, crafts, music, humor, nature and travel. Among her travels, she especially enjoyed visiting Featherstone Castle in Northumberland, England, and special gardens in Europe and the U.S., as well as other special places. Day in and day out firefighters all over the world place themselves in harm's way to protect the lives and property of their fellow man. At the conclusion of the alarm, it was the bell that would signify that the call is complete and the units would be returning to quarters. Firefighter (ret) Lennart C. Peterson, 82, has completed his tour and has returned to quarters on June 1, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Formerly of Romeoville, Illinois, 'Pete' was born at Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago on August 7, 1928 to Carl (1966) and Gerda Hahne (2000) Peterson, and was the adored 'big brother' to Roland of Millersville, MD, and William (Janey) Peterson of North Aurora, IL. In 1953, he married Gloria Long, and was devoted to her for 52 years until her death in 2005. He is survived by his adoring daughter Donna Preisler of Plainfield, IL, loving son Mark (Katherine) of Romeoville, IL, and Scott Peterson of San Antonio, TX. Grandfather of Christy (Thomas) Murray of Joliet, IL, Melissa (Bradley) Gossen, of Crest Hill, IL, John Preisler of Joliet, Bradley and Brian Peterson, of Romeoville. Great-grampa to Christina Graves and TJ Murray, Kaylyn and Cameron Preisler, and Karli Gossen. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pete is also survived by the wonderful family and friends of Marvel Manor and Creekside Hospice. In June of 1953, he joined the Oak Park Fire Department where he served his community as a firefighter, and later as an EMT until his retirement in 1978. She married Robert "Bob" Dittmer on June 25, 1949, in Dieterich., Luella was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Mendon. She graduated from Clayton High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy. In her younger years, she was active in 4-H, where she showed purebred Aberdeen Angus steers. She won many championships showing her steers at livestock shows in St. Louis and Chicago. MARGARET E. "MARDY" (GUNDERSON) HEAL SASMAN

Margaret "Mardy" E. Gunderson Heal Sasman died May 28, 2011, at home peacefully in her sleep., Mardy was born in DeKalb on Feb. 16, 1927, to John and Edith Mary (Kelly) Gunderson. When Mardy was two weeks old, the family moved to the Kelly family farm near Maple Park. She lived there until she married Clifford Heal, and they moved to his grandfather's farm near Esmond. When they left the farm, they moved to Geneva, later to Elgin and then ultimately to Scottsdale, Ariz. Cliff passed away in 1984. In 1991, Mardy moved back to Elgin, and in 1996, to Wheaton. It was there she met and married Robert (Bob) Sasman. Shortly after they married, they had a house built in Aurora where they lived until 2009 when they moved to Geneva., Mardy worked various places as a secretary, bookkeeper and administrative assistant. She enjoyed selling jewelry and Indian artifacts in Old Scottsdale at an Indian store. Other than her family, her greatest love and rewards were working with her philanthropic sorority, Sigma Phi Gamma. Mardy held many positions in the sorority including international president., She leaves her beloved husband, Bob; daughter, Diane (Thomas) Peterson of Elgin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) McLellan of Austin, Texas, Erik (Laura Russell, fiancée) Peterson of Chicago and Carin (Brad) Masel of Elgin; and two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Duncan McLellan. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Montgomery; and brother, John W. Gunderson. Other survivors are Bob's children, Gary Sasman of Spring Valley, Dean (Kim) Sasman of Buffalo Grove and Marcia (Steve) DeLaRosa of Villa Park; and grandson, Hudson DeLaRosa. She will also be missed by her many friends and sorority sisters across the United States and Canada., She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Clifford F. Heal; son, Roger Dale Heal; and her cousin, Ellen Schranz, whom her parents raised., A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at noon Saturday, June 11, at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva, followed by a light luncheon. Martha F. Scalise Loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Great-Nana and Sister ROCKFORD - Martha F. Scalise went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Born Martha F. DiBenedetto on Nov. 21, 1921, in Tickfaw, La., to Sam and Mary DiBenedetto. She married the love of her life, Carl J. Scalise, on Dec. 26, 1942, a union of love and respect that lasted 681/2 years. Martha was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Martha's first loves were God and family. She helped with a number of St. Joseph altars and even held altars in her home. She enjoyed camping, fishing, a variety of crafts, palm weaving, reading and traveling. Some of her favorite destinations included family vacations to various lake resorts, Hawaii and a trip to Sicily to visit the birthplace of her father. Martha was a passionate baker who shared her love of Italian cooking and traditions with her family and friends. She loved life and enjoyed being around people. She took great pride in her family and loved visiting her sisters and family in the south. Martha was a dedicated employee of Woodward Governor until her retirement in 1983. She donated much of her time and talent to many charitable organizations, including Marine Auxiliary, Mother of Twins Club, St. Mary Good Time Club, Catholic Women's League Charity Guild, Belvidere Craft Group, and Sew-B-It Quilters. Pyles, Mary Ellen (nee McGovney) Age 69, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2011 at Silver Cross Hospital surrounded by the loving embrace of her family. Mary Ellen was born in Centralia, IL and was a lifelong resident of New Lenox. Mary Ellen is a direct descendent of the McGovney family who were some of the first settlers of Mokena. She graduated from Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing in 1962 and was a nurse at Silver Cross Hospital until she had her first child in 1965. Mary Ellen Chose to raise her three remarkable boys in lieu of a career and was a wonderful mother to Scott, Kelly and Michael. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of New Lenox for over 50 years. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by and was the loving daughter of Eugene "Steve" and Lillian (nee Nolden) McGovney and her loving granddaughter Kortney Pyles. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband Gary Pyles and her three sons Scott (Maria) Pyles and her grandson Andrew; Kelly (Lacy) Pyles and her granddaughter Taylor; and Michael (Laura) Pyles and her grandson Nicholas. She is also survived by several loving step-grandchildren Regan Alzueta, Christopher Irving, Nicole Harris and Brandon Harris. She was born on Oct. 3,1954, in Macon, Mo., a daughter of Fred and Barbara Robinson Yakle. She married Jack Agnew on May 1, 1977, at the First Christian Church, Hamilton. He survives in Hamilton., Pam graduated from Unity High School in Mendon, with the Class of 1972. She was of the Christian faith. She had worked at Methode in Carthage for several years., Pam enjoyed cooking, reading, traveling and keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook. She was fond of all animals and especially loved her cat, Baby. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan., Most importantly, Pam was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She cared deeply for others and was a good listener. Her beautiful smile and bright eyes would light up a room. Pam continued to give to others as an organ donor., In addition to her husband, Pam is survived by siblings, Sandra K. "Bus" and Lela G. Murray Pennell. He married Shelby Briggs on Feb. 28, 1960, at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, and she survives. He is also survived by four children, Timm (wife, Susan) Pennell and Scott (wife, Chris) Pennell, both of Jacksonville, Mike (wife, Teresa) Pennell of St. Joseph and Gina (husband, Randy) Settles of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren, Adam Logue of Mount Vernon, Holly Pennell, Ethan Pennell, Dillon Pennell, Matthew Pennell and Jordan Pennell, all of Jacksonville, Megan Pennell, Lauren Pennell and Cameron Pennell, all of St. Joseph, and Brendan Settles and Garrett Settles, both of Carrollton; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Renee; two brothers, Danny J. 'Too Tall' was born February 22, 1957 in Decatur, IL, the son of Garrett and Evelyn Pugh Burtcheard. He was a local driver for Keller Trucking of Sullivan working out of Sherwin Williams in Effingham. 'Too Tall' loved to spend time in his boat on Lake Shelbyville, riding his motorcycle, working on motors, he could fix just about anything, and especially loved watching NASCAR races. His greatest passion was spending time with his family and his precious grandchildren. He loved Sunday dinners at home, cooking on the grill, working in the yard and spending time outside around the house. 'Too Tall' even advised Natalie on how to raise pumpkins so that someday she could sell them. He married Pat Hodge on September 2, 1996 at Lake Paradise in Mattoon and she survives. CRYSTAL LAKE – Ricky Eugene Calhoon, 52, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011., He was born July 24, 1958; in Crystal Lake, to Wendell and Diana Calhoon. He was prior Active Duty Air Force, working as an Air Force BioMedical Technician Reserves Unit/Squadron and Civilian Employee at the 18 Flight Test Squadron as an instrumentation technician., He enjoyed life, working hard, and time with family and friends. He always was the first to lend a hand to those in need. He volunteered at local charities such as Meals on Wheels, delivering nutritious meals to the local elderly, as well as donating time, money and cooking skills at the Waterfront Mission in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., He was a beloved father, husband, friend, military professional, and Patriot Guard member. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Robert W. 'Bob' Greenberg, 82 ROCKFORD - Robert W. "Bob" Greenberg, 82, a lifelong resident of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at home. Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Rockford, the son of George and Florence (Carlson) Greenberg. Graduated from East High School in 1946 and attended evening classes at Rockford College. He married Bessie Malmgren on Sept. 23, 1949. For the entirety of his career, Bob worked in the plumbing, heating and cooling business. He was apprenticed as a steamfitter in 1948 and worked for Rockford Industries for 25 years. In 1973, he started his own business, Star Mechanical Inc., retiring in 1998. He was an active member of the local, state and national Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association and a former member of, . Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and the home in Door County, Wis., that he and Bessie built together in retirement. Bob and Bess loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with family, friends and through business. "Bob" Tippy, 74, died Friday, June 3, 2011, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale., Bob was born Dec. 29, 1936, in Clifford to LeRoy and Bertha Marie (Hunsick) Tippy., He married Shirley Fay Neibel on July 20, 1957, in Ozark., He is survived by his wife, Shirley Tippy of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Doug Crosley of Carterville; two sons, Robert "Jay" Tippy Jr. and companion, Debbie Collins, of Herrin, and Rocky Tippy of Herrin; five grandkids, Rane Crosley, Kirby Crosley, Cody Crosley, Caitlin Tippy, and Scott Tippy; and a brother, John LeRoy Tippy of Pinckneyville., He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Tippy., Bob was a heavy equipment operator who worked out of the Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion for more than 20 years. Welsch, Robert Theodore Sr., (R.T.) Age 85, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, June 3, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Hulda Welsch and granddaughter Kathleen Claire Welsch. Survived by his loving wife, Constance Werner Welsch, and proud sons Ted (Karen) Welsch and Steve (Sheila) Welsch. He was a loving grandfather to Sarah, Taylor, Paul, Abbie, Maggie, Annie, Joe, and Alex. Three stepsons, Flip Werner, Jr., Bud Werner, Fred (Lori) Werner. R.T. was born July 22, 1925 in Joliet, IL. He graduated from St. John's Military Academy in 1943. He served with the U.S., in, from 1943 to 1946. He then graduated from the, in 1950, where he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Delta Chapter of the Chi Psi fraternity. After school, he joined the family business, Welsch Red-E-Mix, where he later became president. R.T. served on the Board of Directors of the Northern Illinois Ready Mix and Materials Association, the National Bank of Joliet, Joliet Country Club, the National Ready Mix Concrete Association, and the Werden Buck Boys Club. He was a proud member of the Joliet Moose Lodge 300, the Joliet, #296, the Order of Masonic Shriners, Will Grundy Home Builders Association and the Will Grundy Contractors Association. Sterling Morton High School in Berwyn. He was a Navy veteran serving as an Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd class (CA)USNR in the South Pacific during, . Upon his discharge, he attended Western Michigan College of Education in Kalamazoo, Mich., receiving a degree in aviation mechanics. Afterward, he and three college friends traveled the United States for a year working on farms and other odd jobs to pay their expenses., Rudy owned and operated his own business, Service Adhesives in Maywood, for many years. After selling his company, he worked for the old Geneva Community Hospital in the maintenance department. He loved to travel, especially cruises, was an avid fisherman and also had his pilot's license. He was a longtime and active member of the Geneva Lutheran Church where he was an usher. Stephen Staley Groves, 74, of State College, Pa., died Sunday (May 29, 2011) while bicycling in the State College area., Born Jan. 18, 1937, in Quincy, he was a son of the late Frank Woodrow Groves and Lillian Bennett Groves. On Feb. 6, 1960, he married Kathy Parker. She survives., Steve started with Corning Glass Works in Corning, N.Y., in 1963. After working at many Corning plants throughout the United States and France, he retired from Corning-Asahi in State College in 1998 as the plant manager. He also owned and managed Groves Industries for several years in the 1980s, as well as his own consulting business., Steve was an avid, life-long golfer with a great love for the game. He also loved traveling and cycling, having completed several cross-country bicycle trips. She was a waitress at Stockholm Inn for many years. Sue dearly loved all the family gatherings and being with her grandchildren. She also loved her dogs and enjoyed gardening. Villetta (Allen) Brundage, 97, went to be with her Lord April 25, 2011., She was born in Milledgeville, Ill., to Orville and Clara Allen. The oldest of five children, she graduated from Milledgeville High School as valedictorian and went on to Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb. Her 26 years of teaching included everything from a one-room school house, a grade school class in LaGrange, high school at Malta, finishing with teaching second grade and then first, at Lee Elementary. She met her husband, Maurice, while teaching in Malta and they enjoyed 53 years together. Warren Lee "Bud" Parish, 84, of Sycamore, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. He was born July 20, 1926, in Big Rock, the son of Russell and Eva (Stolp) Parish., Mr. Parish served his country proudly with the United States Army during, . Bud was united in marriage on April 5, 1946, in Big Rock, to the former Miss Alvina Ruth Keenan and they spent the next 64 happy years together until her passing on June 3, 2010. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hinckley. Bud worked on several farms in the Big Rock area, and then was employed as a machinist and ended his career as the Big Rock Township Road Commissioner.
