Alice Irene Cherrill Habben

Alice was born April 20, 1921, in Carthage, a daughter of Lawrence Colville and Stella Golden Paris Cherrill. Alice married Edward Mimka Habben on Dec. 24, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo., She graduated from Carthage High School and went on to receive her teaching degree at Carthage College. She later went on to get her master's degree in elementary education. She served as a teacher for 28 years. Her first teaching job was in a one-room schoolhouse; she then went on to teach in Carthage, Elvaston and Hamilton., Alice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carthage and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and grandchildren., Alice is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne (Bernard) Taus of Carthage; three grandchildren, Alex, John and Alyson; one niece, Susan Ende; a great-niece, Cathy (Jeff) Codd and a great-great-niece, Casey; a great-nephew, Curt (Ellen) Mumpower and a great-great-great-niece, Abbie., She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Agnes Habben., SERVICES: 2 p.m. Thursday in the Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage., VISITATION: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with family present from noon to 2 p.m., or the Illinois Literacy Foundation., ARRANGEMENTS: Printy Funeral Home of Carthage.

She was a financial manager for Allstate Insurance for 22 years. She loved reading, theater and traveling, recently to Mexico, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her children., She was the beloved wife of 25 years to Michael O'Toole, whom she married Aug. 31, 1985; loving mother of Sara and Ryan; dear sister of Denise (Dave) Lenihan and Paul (Laurie) Becker; and adored aunt of many nieces and nephews., She was preceded in death by her parents., The visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. She was born Oct. 18, 1926 in Jacksonville, a daughter of Earl and Anna V. (Jefferson) Rickard. She married Loren B. "Buck" Brown on April 28, 1956 in Quincy. He died Feb. 13, 2000., Mrs. Brown was a licensed beautician for more than 50 years in the Quincy area, working for the Key Beauty Salon and for Mr. Roberts. Anna May received her GED when she was 62 years old. She was also a graduate of the Quincy Beauty Academy. She was of the Christian Faith. Anna May loved to crochet., She is survived by two daughters, Krista Sullivan and her husband, James, of Manchester, N.H. and Gloria Jean Kinkade and her husband, David, of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jeff Sullivan, Jimmy Sullivan, Kimberly Schafer and her husband Paul, Lee Ann Kinkade and her husband Vernon and John Gareth Kinkade and his wife Jean; and seven great-grandchildren, Logan Schafer, Loren Kinkade, David V. Barbara Jean Garmer

Barbara was born May 17, 1928 in Quincy, a daughter of Benjamin Earl and Doris Golden Bauer. She married James Donald "Don" Garmer on Nov. 22, 1947 in Quincy. He died July 6, 2009., Barbara was a graduate of Gem City Business College. She was employed by Moorman Mfg. in the accounting department until 1955. She loved visiting Florida during the winter and attended the Palmetto Presbyterian Church in Palmetto, Fla. Barbara enjoyed golf and taking cruises with her husband, Don., Survivors include her daughter, Jill A. (Greg) Wright of Silex, Mo.; her son, James E. Born Nov. 4, 1933 in Quincy, Barb was a daughter of Carl John and Mary Louise Rupp Blickhan., Mrs. Perry was employed as a medical technologist at St. Mary's Hospital for 33 years before retiring from Blessing Hospital in 1995., She was a 1951 graduate of Quincy High School and attended Quincy College. She was an avid sports enthusiast and loved the St. Louis Cardinals., Barb was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Adams County Home Extension. As a child she was involved in 4-H, Rural Youth and enjoyed participating at the Adams County Fair., She enjoyed playing Pinochle with a close group of friends in Camp Point for over 50 years. Barb was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished family and friends., Surviving is a daughter, Betsy Perry of St. Louis; two sons, Ted Perry of Lawson, Mo. and Tod Perry (Rachel) of Camp Point; a sister-in-law, Shirley Perry of Cambria, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Alex and Augie Perry, Maggie and Abbie Perry and Mary Scot, Malachi, Elizabeth and Elijah Perry; a brother, Carl John Blickhan of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews., She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Timothy Perry., SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Camp Point, by the Rev. Bernard John "Slim" Froehlich

Bernard was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Tell City, Ind., a son of Edward and Ethel Vaughn Froehlich. He married Sharon Hall on Sept. 19, 1959, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives., Bernard served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served in Germany, Korea and in Vietnam during the war, and retired on Sept. 20, 1975. He was then employed by Quincy Soybean Co. for 10 years and was the cafeteria manager. He and Sharon then owned the Flying Inn for 10 years. Slim worked in the dietary department of Illinois Veterans Home until his retirement in 1999., He loved woodworking, reading and shooting pool. He especially loved being with his grandchildren later in life., Survivors also include two sons, Bernard J. (Linda) Froehlich Jr. of Huntsville, Al., and Tony R. (Michelle) Froehlich of Rolla, Mo.; six grandchildren, Bernard J. (Jackie) Froehlich III of Pensacola, Fla., Christina Leigh Froehlich of Douglasville, Ga., Nicole Froehlich (fiance Nate Ebbing) of Quincy, and Aaron, Aarika and Alexis Froehlich, all of Rolla; three great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Bernadine Alvey of Tell City, Delores (Ron) Hahus of Tell City, Anita (Tom) White of Hawesville, Ky., Virginia White of Cannellton, Ind., Dorothy Collins of West Plains, Mo., Larry (Joyce) Froehlich of Grandview, Ind., and Don (Lois) Froehlich of Tell City; and numerous nieces and nephews., Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bill Froehlich., SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunset Cemetery in Quincy, with Rev. Bertha May Wubker, 75, of Beardstown, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at her home., She was born Sept. 28, 1935, in Rushville, Ind., the daughter of Frank and Mary Rose Farley. She married John Edward Wubker on March 19, 1954 in Rushville, Ind., and he preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2008., Surviving are four children, John Franklin (wife, Shelley) Wubker of Beardstown, Shelia (husband, Gary) McElfresh of Quincy, Stephan Edward (wife, Lou Ann) Wubker of Beardstown and Melinda Kay (husband, Michael) Varley of Bath; five grandchildren, Lucas McElfresh of Valparaiso, Ind., Kristin (husband, Mark) Cook, Anna Wubker and Abby Wubker, all of Beardstown and Michael Varley of Bath; two great-grandchildren, Kyndel Painter and Owen Cook, both of Beardstown; two brothers, Bob and Bill Farley, both of Rushville, Ind.; and two sisters, Ada Farley of Rushville, Ind., and Emmaline James of Connersville, Ind., She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson, Matthew McElfresh on May 21, 2009; two brothers; and one sister., Bertha was a devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown and assisted the Pastor at Bible Study at Heritage Manor South. She was formerly employed as a Certified Nurses Assistant at Myers Nursing Home and then St. Luke's Healthcare Center, both in Beardstown. She enjoyed flower gardening and she genuinely cherished and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren., Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown. CLARA RUTH BRILES

Clara Ruth Briles, 91, of DeKalb, passed away Saturday, May 7, under the tender care of the DeKalb County Hospice at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, DeKalb., Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Riverside, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, Ruth was the daughter of Robert Pierce and Ida (Hightower) Wilson. She married Worthie Elwood Briles on June 6, 1941, in Austin, Texas, while the two of them were attending the, . Later that summer, Ruth and Elwood received their Bachelors of Arts degrees in zoology from UT. They then went to the, at Madison to begin work on their advanced degrees. However, those efforts were set aside so that Elwood could serve in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II., Following World War II and the births of their first two children (Susan and David), Ruth and Elwood returned to Madison where they received their advanced degrees in immunogenetics in 1948 (Ruth: M.S., Elwood: Ph.D.). The family then moved to College Station, Texas, where Elwood was a faculty member in the Poultry Science Department at Texas A&M and where their younger daughter Sara was born. After the family moved to DeKalb in 1957, Ruth worked with Elwood at the DeKalb Agricultural Association as a research associate in immunogenetics research from 1958-1968. From 1968-1970, Ruth was an Instructor in biological sciences at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb., From 1970-2000, Ruth again worked with Elwood, this time as a research associate for immunogenetics research in the Biology Department at NIU. On October 9, 2004, Elwood and Ruth were recognized for their contributions to avian genetics by the U.S. Department of Agriculture., Ruth was active in the American Association of University Women, volunteered at the Ellwood House and served for several years as the superintendent of the Sunday school at First Congregational Church in DeKalb., She is survived by her husband, Elwood; children, Susan Marie (Duane) Kniebes of Boulder, Colo., David Elwood (Marilyn Crain) Briles of Birmingham, Ala. and Sara (Richard Briles Moriarty) Briles of Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Dustin Lincoln (Dana Churness) Briles Moriarty of Herbster, Wis., Rachel Florence (fiancé Duy Hoang) Briles of Austin, Texas and Travis Crain Briles of Boulder, Colo.; step-grandchildren, Linda (Kniebes) Kozak and Carrie (Steve) Swift (Kniebes) of Lisle, Ill. and Van Kniebes of Boulder; great-grandchildren, Wylder Lee and Olin Elwood Moriarty of Herbster; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, including especially nephews, Jesse Rodman Wilson Jr. (Cathy) of Cold Springs, Nev., Hal (Claudia) Cochran of West Covina, Calif., Dale (Jacqueline) Cochran of San Clemente, Calif. and Roy (Thérèse) Krebs of Alexandria, Va., She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Robert Pierce Wilson II, Travis Hudson Wilson I, Ida Gertrude Krebs, Charlotte Josephine Cochran, Sarah Elizabeth Quinlan and Jesse Rodman Wilson Sr.; and her brothers-in-law, Connally Oran Briles, Van Gordon Briles and Jack David Briles., A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, in the Hearthside Room in the Visitors' Center of the Ellwood House, 509 W. He enjoyed studying languages, reading, traveling, and rooting loudly for the New York Yankees to win. He will be remembered and treasured for his wit and sense of humor, generous nature and outgoing personality., He graduated with an MBA from Northern Illinois University and retired from finance and business dealer development with Clark Equipment, Volvo-White GMC, and Nissan Forklift Corp. David was born Nov. 12, 1947, in Quincy, a son of Vernon Lester and Juanita Marie Conner Karlson. On Oct. 29, 1970, he married Ruth Melanephy in San Diego, Calif., and she died July 21, 1990. On April 22, 2006, he married Sandra Mae Higgins in Litchfield. She survives., David was a 1967 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He enlisted in the Marines, serving from 1968 to 1974 . David was very proud to serve in the Marines and for his country in Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Ranger. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years, retiring in 2003., David spent as much time as possible on the golf course. Golfing was one of his true loves. He also bowled on the leagues here in Quincy and Gillespie., Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, David V. (Brenda) Karlson II of Newport News, Va., Jon Karlson of Paxton and Chris Karlson and Chuck Karlson of Quincy; a daughter, Katrina (Mike) Blackwell of Quincy; two sisters, Mary Bridgman of Ursa and Barbara Karlson of Quincy; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; four stepchildren, Jeff (Niki) May of Litchfield, Rachel (Mike) Warfield of Louisville, Ky., Todd (Kristina) May of Mount Olive, and Kevin (Kyra) May of Livingston; 11 step-grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild., David was preceded in death by his parents., SERVICES: 3 p.m. Sunday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Born Aug. 18, 1918 in Ethel, Mo., Gene was the daughter of Omer and Winifred Edwards Lile. She married Arthur J. "Bump" Huseman on Aug. 4, 1941 in Macon, Mo., and celebrated 69 years of marriage until his passing on Sept. 19, 2010., Gene was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the St. Mary Nurses Alumni. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Dorothy Lieber Hughes, 88, of Virginia Beach, passed away May 26, 2011., Dorothy was raised in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1941. She served in the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II. While residing in Galesburg she was employed by Butler Manufacturing Co., Dorothy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Clifton E. Hughes of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Tracy Owens and husband Eddie of North Carolina; a son, Gregory Hughes and wife Pasha of Utah; and nine grandchildren. She also is survived by sister, Evelyn Johnson of Iowa, Clarice Palmer of California, Alice Spencer of Galesburg, Judith Wilson of Galesburg; and brothers Larry Lieber of Galesburg and Jerry Lieber of Macomb, Illinois., A celebration of life for Dorothy was held on May 31 in Virginia Beach. McBride, 78, of Monmouth died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at home., He was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Monmouth, the son of Andrew and Blanche (Hoover) McBride. Jack was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1950. He received an A.A. degree from Reedley College in 1952, a B.S. from Monmouth College in 1954, his master's degree in education from the, in 1958 and his Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Oklahoma in 1963., Jack married Betty Duncan in Monmouth on July 10, 1953, and she survives., He served with the United States Army from 1953 to 1955., Jack served as chairman of the education/psychology departments as well as head football and baseball coach at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO. He later also served as the vice president of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa., He loved his family and friends and never lost his love of sports. He had a passion for traveling the world and enjoyed cruises with his wife., Jack was a member, Paul Harris Fellow and past president of Monmouth, ; Faith United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth, where he chaired the last capital campaign; and he served as a member of the board of commission for the city of Monmouth. Jack was a member of Marion B. Fletcher American Legion Post 136 in Monmouth. He was inducted into Reedley College Hall of Fame, Monmouth High School Hall of Fame. Jack, along with his 1972 football team, were inducted into the Culver-Stockton College Hall of Fame. He was honored in 2010 as being the winningest football coach in Culver-Stockton College history. He also received the John Cessna Memorial Award for Outstanding Umpire., In 2010 he was named Old Timer of the Year in honor and respect for his many contributions to the city of Monmouth and to the men's softball programs of the city in recognition of his outstanding dedication and creative leadership., Surviving family include his wife, Betty of Monmouth; son, Jack L. They were a successful team and held several patents relating to their products., In 1956, Gene and his young family moved to Lombard where he sang bass in the West Towns Barbershop Chorus and coached Babe Ruth baseball., In 1981, Gene and Arlene moved to St. Charles. He volunteered at Delnor, serving over 6,500 hours, in the library, driving the mobile mammography van and doing patient transportation., He was a very active member of Mended Hearts for over 25 years, visiting cardiac patients and serving as editor of the newsletter., A long-suffering Cubs fan, he enjoyed music, antique cars, politics, computer solitaire, nature and feeding and watching the birds. Stephanie was born in Quincy on Aug. 18, 1940, to William Joseph Dieterich and Virginia Ruth Robinson Dieterich of Quincy, both now deceased. The second of three daughters, she is survived by her sisters, Kathryn Dieterich-Rurup of Aurora, Colo. and Deborah Dieterich Real of Quincy., Her father, William Dieterich, was attorney for the Quincy Public Schools, Quincy University, and other area school districts for many decades. Her mother, Virginia, was administrative secretary at Salem Church for many years., Stephanie grew up in Quincy and had many friends. She attended Quincy public schools and began to study trumpet while at Webster Grade School. She became first chair trumpet in both the Quincy High School band and orchestra, and was a featured soloist her senior year. She also was a member of the Quincy Drum and Bugle Corps, the Quincy Park Band, and the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, which featured her as a Young Artists Night soloist in 1958., She attended the University of Illinois School of Music, majoring in trumpet, and was named first chair in the concert band in her junior year. She was a member of the University of Illinois Concert Band, Concert Orchestra and Wind Ensemble in her freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. She was a 1962 graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Performance., In 1966, she moved to New York City where she attended and graduated from Parsons New School of Design with a degree and certification in Architecture of Interior Design, working at night and on weekends to fund her college education. She was featured in the Parsons New School of Design Magazine, received an award for a couch that she designed, and also completed additional coursework in Landscape Design., It was during this period that Stephanie met and fell in love with Richard A. Hetzel, an architect in New York City. They were married on Feb. 14, 1971, and shared an office together in Nyack, N.Y. Stephanie designed a children's room for the Haverstraw Public Library, a coffee shop, a drive-in safety booth for a 7-Eleven convenience store in upper New York, had several landscape design projects and worked for a nursery, and also had a number of private clients., About 10 years ago, Stephanie developed Alzheimer's Disease. They moved to Tobyhanna, Pa., where her husband cared for her until 2007 when she was admitted to the Alzheimer's Unit of the Golden Living Center-Stroud, where she spent her final years., Stephanie was a very creative person who had a gift for music, art, design and photography. She was an outstanding cook and in her early-20s was a cook for Fabiola Moorman. Her laugh could fill a room, and she was outgoing and full of life and fun. An avid reader, she particularly enjoyed books on local history, cookbooks, children's books, landscaping and gardening. She was a great lover of animals., She is survived by a step-daughter, Maya Hetzel; her sisters; a niece, Elizabeth Alexander Real Ericson and her husband Brant of Quincy; her husband's niece, Heidi Hetzel-Evans of Columbus, Ohio; several cousins; and her beloved cat, Jack., She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two uncles, Richard Robinson and Harry Lynn (Uncle Buddy) Robinson; three aunts, Jo Alice Robinson Maher, Helen Dieterich, and Ruth Dieterich Wilson; and her beloved cat, Sam., SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Oct. 1, 2011. Joanne L. Towne, 75 BYRON - Joanne L. Towne, 75, of Byron passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 22, 1935, in Winnebago to Eli and Alma (Degrote) Allen. Graduated from Winnebago High School in 1953 and obtained her beauty culturist license. She married Rex Towne on July 14, 1957, and operated a salon in their Rockford home until moving in 1976 to Oregon, where she worked in several salons. After Rex's death in 1985, Joanne obtained her CNA license and worked at nursing homes in Oregon and Mount Morris before retiring in 1999. She moved to Byron, where she lived with her daughter Lisa, then with her daughter Robin. Joanne loved traveling to Texas to visit her son, Gregory, and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life. Survivors include children, Lisa (Larry) Leach of Davis Junction, Robin (John) Sisouk of Byron and Gregory (Jodi) Towne of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Janel (Josh) Voyles, Ashley (Kevin) Vuong, Kelsey, Lauren and Mallory Lameyer, Jacob, Joanna and Tyler Sisouk, and Reed Towne; great-grandchild, Evan Vuong; and dear friends, Vivian and Norma. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; brother, Connie; and sister, Barbara. Service at 10 a.m. Thursday June 9, in All Saints Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott Schmidt officiating. Whittle, John C. Passed away within the Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, AZ on Thursday, April 14, 2011 surrounded by his children. Born June 11, 1938. He is survived by children Joleen (Dan) Farnesi of Homer Glen, Julie Dougherty of Lansing, John Whittle Jr. of Lansing and Jennifer Whittle of Florida. He is also survived by his partner of Phoenix, AZ Alice Forrester and mother of his children, Eileen (Quinlan) Whittle; brothers Bobby Dale Strauch of Phoenix, AZ and Gerald Strauch of Hebron, IN.; wonderful nephew Ron (Veronica) Whittle Jr., Connie Embry, Donna (Danny) Brozowski, Michael (Jodi) Whittle, Kathy Gibbons, Selly Strauch, Katie Strauch, grandfather to 12 and great uncle to many. John served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He also made many friends in Phoenix and was always there to lend a helping hand, advice, a shoulder to cry on and anything else that someone asked or needed from him. He had a wonderful support group in Phoenix were he made many friends over the years. He loved to pan for gold out west and travel to Laughlin to gamble a little bit. He also loved his "roundup" trips. He will be greatly missed by the Phoenix group of friends, as well as family here back home in the Chicago area. He was nicknamed "Chicago John". Everyone knew him by that name. Memorial service to be held at a later date at his daughter's home in Homer Glen.

He looked forward to dancing and especially going to polka fests. He married Elizabeth Rainwater on Dec. 29, 1946, at the home of Elizabeth's parents, John and Edna Rainwater near Pittsfield. Elizabeth died Nov. 9, 2010., John retired from Boeing Aircraft and McDonald-Douglas in St. Louis as an aircraft mechanic. Fred K. and Katie (Collins) Rich, she graduated from Jennings Seminary, Aurora; Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts; and Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury (Vt.) College, with a Master of Arts., Louise taught English and Latin courses for 44 years in grades 8-13 in Iowa and Illinois; she was employed by Hinsdale Township High School District 86 for 37 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, DeKalb; AAUW, AARP and IEA-NRTA; a volunteer crafter at Graue Mill and Museum, Oak Brook; and a volunteer at Oak Crest, where she lived since 1999., Louise enjoyed family, children, people, books, plays, crafts, music, humor, nature and travel. Among her travels, she especially enjoyed visiting Featherstone Castle in Northumberland, England, and special gardens in Europe and the U.S., as well as other special places. MARGARET E. "MARDY" (GUNDERSON) HEAL SASMAN

Margaret "Mardy" E. Gunderson Heal Sasman died May 28, 2011, at home peacefully in her sleep., Mardy was born in DeKalb on Feb. 16, 1927, to John and Edith Mary (Kelly) Gunderson. When Mardy was two weeks old, the family moved to the Kelly family farm near Maple Park. She lived there until she married Clifford Heal, and they moved to his grandfather's farm near Esmond. When they left the farm, they moved to Geneva, later to Elgin and then ultimately to Scottsdale, Ariz. Cliff passed away in 1984. In 1991, Mardy moved back to Elgin, and in 1996, to Wheaton. It was there she met and married Robert (Bob) Sasman. Shortly after they married, they had a house built in Aurora where they lived until 2009 when they moved to Geneva., Mardy worked various places as a secretary, bookkeeper and administrative assistant. She enjoyed selling jewelry and Indian artifacts in Old Scottsdale at an Indian store. Other than her family, her greatest love and rewards were working with her philanthropic sorority, Sigma Phi Gamma. Mardy held many positions in the sorority including international president., She leaves her beloved husband, Bob; daughter, Diane (Thomas) Peterson of Elgin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) McLellan of Austin, Texas, Erik (Laura Russell, fiancée) Peterson of Chicago and Carin (Brad) Masel of Elgin; and two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline and Duncan McLellan. She is also survived by her sister, Marion Montgomery; and brother, John W. Gunderson. Other survivors are Bob's children, Gary Sasman of Spring Valley, Dean (Kim) Sasman of Buffalo Grove and Marcia (Steve) DeLaRosa of Villa Park; and grandson, Hudson DeLaRosa. She will also be missed by her many friends and sorority sisters across the United States and Canada., She was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Clifford F. Heal; son, Roger Dale Heal; and her cousin, Ellen Schranz, whom her parents raised., A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at noon Saturday, June 11, at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva, followed by a light luncheon. She was self-employed as a beautician and was an accomplished artist for more than 25 years, belonging to the Illinois Arts and Crafts Artisans Program. She moved to Peoria, Ariz., in 2004, where she enjoyed living the final seven years of her life. Margy's family and friends are blessed to have been touched by her love and generosity. Martha F. Scalise Loving Wife, Mother, Nana, Great-Nana and Sister ROCKFORD - Martha F. Scalise went peacefully to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Born Martha F. DiBenedetto on Nov. 21, 1921, in Tickfaw, La., to Sam and Mary DiBenedetto. She married the love of her life, Carl J. Scalise, on Dec. 26, 1942, a union of love and respect that lasted 681/2 years. Martha was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Martha's first loves were God and family. She helped with a number of St. Joseph altars and even held altars in her home. She enjoyed camping, fishing, a variety of crafts, palm weaving, reading and traveling. Some of her favorite destinations included family vacations to various lake resorts, Hawaii and a trip to Sicily to visit the birthplace of her father. Martha was a passionate baker who shared her love of Italian cooking and traditions with her family and friends. She loved life and enjoyed being around people. She took great pride in her family and loved visiting her sisters and family in the south. Martha was a dedicated employee of Woodward Governor until her retirement in 1983. She donated much of her time and talent to many charitable organizations, including Marine Auxiliary, Mother of Twins Club, St. Mary Good Time Club, Catholic Women's League Charity Guild, Belvidere Craft Group, and Sew-B-It Quilters. She is survived by her loving husband, Carl; sons, Carl (Sharon) Scalise, Sam (Margee) Scalise and Dan (Merlene) Scalise; twin daughters, Rosie (Craig) Sheridan and Patti (John) Steinkamp; grandchildren, Carl (Robin) Scalise, Crystal and Trisha Wolford, Karl, Nick and Chris (Angela Garcia) Steinkamp, Heather Scalise, Grant Scalise, Marta (Chad) Sheridan and Tricia Sheridan, Tiffany (Leo) Villarreal, Eric Drake and Lisa Hicks and Matthew (Carie) Shealy; great-grandchildren, Nicole and C.J. Scalise, Miaca, Alex, Riannon Perez, Darren Hicks and Mason Drake, and Alana and Marik Shealy; sisters, Rose Cotton and Jeanette Perise. She was an avid reader, and she liked to decorate around the house. Born Dec. 6, 1928, in Chicago to Harold and Eileen Gray Swearingen. Married Harold Heaster on Aug. 25, 1945; he died in 1979. Married Dr. Mathias F.F. Kohl on Dec. 6, 1980; he died in 2001. Patricia studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, specializing in portraits. She graduated from the Chicago public school's practical nursing program in 1965 and worked at Presbyterian St. Luke and Little Company of Mary Hospitals. In 1977, she earned an associate's degree in mental health technology from Prairie State College. Other interest included painting, songwriting, music, working with miniatures, writing and illustrating for publications, genealogy and acting. Patricia served on the board of the Winnebago County Council on Aging in Rockford. She is survived by son, David (Donna) Heaster of Hazel Crest; daughters, Ruthanne (the late Robert) Oberholtzer of Geneva and Kristin (George) Benjamin of Allentown, Pa.; grandmother to Jennifer, Jason, Lisa, Jessica, David, Rachel and Samantha; great-grandmother to Amanda, Shay, Hope and Kaitlyn. MAQUON - Ramon "Toots" Fleisher, 81, of rural Maquon, died Saturday morning, June 4, 2011, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, He was born April 10,1930, in rural Fulton County to Ralph and Alta (Tabor) Fleisher., He married Betty Courson on Feb. 3,1952; she preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2002., He also was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters., He is survived by three children, Sandy Fleisher, Galesburg; Rod (Sherry) Fleisher and Sam Fleisher, all rural Maquon., He has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, He graduated from Fairview High School in 1948. He served six years in the Navy after high school and during the Korean War. He worked 10 years for the strip mine "farm gang" planting many trees and seeding "spoil" banks locally. He retired a welder at Asarco strip mine, Trivoli. He was a two-term road commissioner for Maquon Township. He was a member of Maquon American Legion, then Fairview American Legion. He was an active member of U.M.W.A. Union, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming and playing pitch. He was one of the original deer permit purchasers in Illinois, later getting his wife, family and friends to join in., He and his wife purchased some of the original recreation ground in 1952 by buying a home on a strip mine lake near Rapatee where they lived all of their lives., Per his request there will be no services., Memorials may be made to Maquon Sunday School or Galesburg Rescue Mission, There will be a memorial/celebration of life service from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday July 16 at Maquon Church Fellowship Hall.

Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Rockford, the son of George and Florence (Carlson) Greenberg. Graduated from East High School in 1946 and attended evening classes at Rockford College. He married Bessie Malmgren on Sept. 23, 1949. For the entirety of his career, Bob worked in the plumbing, heating and cooling business. He was apprenticed as a steamfitter in 1948 and worked for Rockford Industries for 25 years. In 1973, he started his own business, Star Mechanical Inc., retiring in 1998. He was an active member of the local, state and national Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association and a former member of, . Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and the home in Door County, Wis., that he and Bessie built together in retirement. Bob and Bess loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe with family, friends and through business. After selling his company, he worked for the old Geneva Community Hospital in the maintenance department. He loved to travel, especially cruises, was an avid fisherman and also had his pilot's license. He was a longtime and active member of the Geneva Lutheran Church where he was an usher. Zupancic, Theresa M. "Razzy" Age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Provena Villa Franciscan. Theresa is survived by her sister-in-law Irene (the late Joseph) Zupancic, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Frank and Theresa Zupancic, three brothers Joseph, Frank and Albin, and sister Loretta Wieremann. Theresa was a lifelong resident of Rockdale, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Rockdale. A Celebration of Theresa's life will be on Tuesday, June 6, 2011 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:30 am, then in procession to St. Joseph Church in Rockdale with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am. Villetta (Allen) Brundage, 97, went to be with her Lord April 25, 2011., She was born in Milledgeville, Ill., to Orville and Clara Allen. The oldest of five children, she graduated from Milledgeville High School as valedictorian and went on to Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb. Her 26 years of teaching included everything from a one-room school house, a grade school class in LaGrange, high school at Malta, finishing with teaching second grade and then first, at Lee Elementary. She met her husband, Maurice, while teaching in Malta and they enjoyed 53 years together. She loved her churches – both the Brethren Church of Milledgeville and First Congregational Church of Malta, where she taught Sunday school for many years., Villetta lived in El Paso, Texas, since October 2001., She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor (Rob) Phillips; granddaughter, Sine Phillips; her sisters, Helen Kelly and Ann Millhouse; brother, Orville George (Jean) Allen; nieces, Mickey (James) Jewell, JoAnn Shafer, Catherine Kelly, Roseanne Kelly, Blenda (Barry) Williams, Karen (John) Hiscox, Debbie (Greg) Stubbs, Eileen (Dean) Johnson and Nancy Brundage; and nephews, Allen (Jill) Millhouse and Mark (Caralee) Kelly., She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, and her sister, Eva Simpson., A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with interment at Malta Cemetery., In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Villetta (Allen) Brundage Memorial Fund, in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Purdy Sr., Walter W. Walter W. Purdy, Sr., age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with his family by his side. Walter retired from Georgia Pacific Printing Company after more than 20 years of service. He was a United States, Veteran having served in the European Theatre during the "Battle of the Bulge." He loved gardening and woodworking. Walter was a lifelong member of the Lockport, #5788 and was an active member of First Congregation Church of Lockport for many years. Preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine June (nee Egdorf) Purdy in 1984; his parents Bert and Clara Purdy; and brothers Clarence, LeRoy and Joyce Purdy. Walter is survived by his wife Mary Lorraine (nee Ramanousky) Purdy; his son Walter W. (Donna) Purdy, Jr., his daughter Lynn Purdy; grandchildren; Wally (Joyce) Purdy, Bill (Katie) Purdy, Nick Welsh and Megan Welsh; great-grandchildren Jenna, Tyler and Jack; and two sisters, Eleanor Plisich and Phyllis Purdy. Graduated from Rockford High School. Married the former Jane Garman on Oct. 31, 1942, in Rockford. Retired from Woodward Governor after 44 years, most recently as service manager. Member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Rockford, . Earl enjoyed playing cards and was a Chicago White Sox fan. He was also an avid bowler and golfer, winning many trophies for each. His grandchildren were very important to him. Survivors include wife, Jane of Rockford; daughter, Marcia (Klaas) Schenkel of Holcomb; sons, Bill (Vicki) Price and Steven (Karen) Price, both of Rockford; grandchildren, David (Katy) Price, Alan Price, Amy Price and Bobby Price; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Mason and Reagan Price; brothers, Jim Price and Ralph Wilson; sisters, Margaret Altergott and Doris McCaw; and several nieces and nephews.
